 History & Mission

 
  OSBE is composed of the representatives from 25 states that operate
  more than half of the public broadcasting stations in the United States.
    
  OSBE began meeting on a regular basis in 1981 and formally organized 
  in 1986. 
    
  OSBE serves its members on matters of concern to both individual and
  multiple states. OSBE's three primary service areas are:
   
  • Review and formulation of proposed policies and/or guidelines on legal or regulatory matters having impact 
    on member service capacity
  • Exploration and development of interstate projects
  • Information and training opportunities

 OSBE Elects South Dakota Public Broadcasting's
  Julie Andersen  New Co-Chair
   
   (Salt Lake City, UT - September 10, 2009) At their fall meeting in Salt
   Lake City, Utah, the OSBE membership elected Julie Andersen, the
   executive director of South Dakota Public Broadcasting, as their
   new co-chair.
     
   Andersen has been a member of OSBE since 1997, and is recognized
   across the public broadcasting system as a capable leader.  In 2002,
   Andersen was honored with the National Advocacy Award from the
   Association of Public Television Stations for her efforts to bring rural
   broadband issues before the U.S. Senate. She serves alongside
   the senior co-chair, Mac Wall, executive director of KET.
      
   OSBE's bylaws call for leadership by co-chairs who are elected by the
   membership for staggered two-year terms.

   Andersen succeeds Rod Bates, the general manager of NET in Lincoln,
   Nebraska.  Bates' service as OSBE co-chair was celebrated, and a
   resolution of thanks was presented to him, during the Salt Lake City
  membership meeting.
 

   

   The Organization of State Broadcasting Executives, established in 1981,
   is composed of the representatives from 31 states that operate more
   than half of the public broadcasting stations in the United States.
